Small Beginnings, Persistent Faith
Drawing from two of Jesus' parables, the parable of the mustard seed and the parable of the persistent widow, this sermon explores the profound value of small beginnings and the importance of persistent, faith-filled prayer. Pastor Heather challenges the congregation to start with what God has already placed in their hands, no matter how insignificant it may seem, and to trust that God is able to grow it into something far beyond what they could imagine. Using the framework of the kingdom of heaven, the sermon emphasizes that God's reign breaks into the world through faithful people who invest in what they have been given, pray without ceasing, and wait with confidence on God's timing. The parable of the persistent widow is examined through the lens of an "argument from lesser to greater," showing that if an unjust judge responds to persistence, how much more will a just and loving God respond to the prayers of his people. The sermon closes with a corporate prayer over personal longings, unanswered prayers, and God-given dreams that have yet to come to fruition.
