Day 5 of Gratitude Through Hardship

Thank You for the Fleas

Reading: Philippians 4:4-7; James 1:2-4

"Thank you for the fleas." Betsy's gratitude seemed absurd in that moment—praising God for pests in a concentration camp. But those fleas created the freedom for God's Word to be shared without interference, bringing hope to hundreds of suffering women. We cannot always see the purpose in our difficulties, but we can trust that God wastes nothing. The very thing that makes your situation unbearable might be the thing God is using for greater good. Philippians 4 promises that thanksgiving—even in hardship—unlocks "the peace of God, which transcends all understanding." This isn't denial of pain; it's defiant trust in God's sovereignty. What is your "flea" today? Can you thank God for it, trusting He sees what you cannot?
