Day 2 of Small Beginnings, Persistent Faith

Small Beginnings, Great Purposes

Reading
: Zechariah 4:1-10

The prophet Zechariah delivered a word that cuts against the grain of a world obsessed with scale and spectacle: do not despise the day of small things. The mustard seed is not impressive to look at. It sits in the palm of your hand, tiny and seemingly insignificant. Yet planted in good soil, watered with patience, and given time, it becomes something extraordinary. God is not intimidated by small beginnings. In fact, he seems to delight in them. The kingdom of heaven itself was planted in the most unlikely of places, in a manger, in a carpenter's village, through a handful of ordinary people. Do not despise where you are starting.

Reflection Questions:
  • Have you ever dismissed a dream or calling because it seemed too small to matter?
  • Where in your life might God be asking you to trust the process of slow, steady growth?
