Day 3 of Cultivating A Heart For Harvest

Roots That Hold
Reading
:Colossians 2:6-7

Paul encourages believers to continue living in Christ just as they received Him -- rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in faith, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Excitement is not the same as depth. Many people begin their walk with God with great enthusiasm, and that enthusiasm is a gift. But enthusiasm alone cannot sustain faith when difficulty arrives. Roots are not glamorous. They grow downward, out of sight, through resistance. But they are what hold a plant in place when the storm comes. Shallow soil produces quick growth and quick collapse. The believer with deep roots looks the same on the surface during a storm as they do on a calm day -- because what holds them is not visible circumstances but invisible connection to the One who does not move. Depth is built through the unglamorous, repetitive work of prayer, Scripture, worship, and honest community.

Reflection:  When difficulty or persecution has come in your life, what has your response revealed about the depth of your roots?
