Day 2 of Love Calls Us Home

Coming to Your Senses

Reading
: Luke 15:17-19; Acts 3:19-20; 1 John 1:9

The turning point in the prodigal son's story is captured in four words: he came to his senses. He did not simply feel bad about what had happened. He made a decision. He recognized his condition, remembered his father's house, and resolved to get up and go home. This is the heart of repentance -- not merely remorse over consequences, but a genuine change of mind that produces a change of direction. Many people carry regret for years without ever taking the step of turning around. Remorse says, "I hate what I did." Repentance says, "I am not going to keep living this way." You do not need to have every step of the journey figured out. You simply need to take the first one.

Personal Reflection: Is there a difference between how you feel about your sin and how you are responding to it? Are you carrying remorse without yet embracing repentance?
