Day 1 of Who is My Neighbor?
The Heart of the Law
Reading: Luke 10:25-28; Deuteronomy 6:4-6; Matthew 22:37-40
The religious expert came to Jesus with a test, but Jesus turned it into a teaching moment. When asked what must be done to inherit eternal life, the answer was not a checklist of religious duties but a call to wholehearted love -- love for God and love for neighbor. These two commands are inseparable. You cannot genuinely love God while withholding love from the people He created. Before you move through this week, ask yourself honestly: is your faith driven by rule-keeping, or by a heart that has been genuinely transformed by the love of God? Let love be your foundation, not obligation.
Reflection Questions
In what areas of your life do you find yourself following religious habits without genuine love behind them?
