Day 2 of Humility Finds Us

The Prayer That Changes Everything

Reading
: Psalm 51:1-17

The tax collector's prayer was only seven words, yet it carried the full weight of a broken and honest heart. He did not arrive with a list of accomplishments or a defense of his intentions. He arrived with nothing except an awareness of his need. Psalm 51 captures this same posture, describing a spirit that is crushed and contrite before God. God does not despise that kind of prayer. He draws near to it. No matter how long you have followed Jesus or how far you feel from him today, the prayer "God, have mercy on me, a sinner" is always the right place to begin.

Reflection: When you pray, are you more often presenting God with your resume or your need?
