Day 5 of Humility Finds Us

Justified Before God

Reading
: Romans 3:21-26, Ephesians 2:8-9

Jesus declared that the tax collector went home justified. That word carries enormous weight. To be justified is not simply to be forgiven. It is to be declared righteous before God. Romans 3 makes clear that this justification does not come through religious precision or moral achievement. It comes through faith in Jesus Christ. The Pharisee's six-point prayer could not purchase what the tax collector received through five broken words. Salvation is not something we build toward. It is something we receive. Communion, which the early church practiced regularly, exists as a continual reminder that everything rests on what Jesus has already done, not on what we have yet to accomplish.

Reflection: What would change in your daily life if you truly lived as someone who has already been declared righteous, not as someone still trying to earn it?
